The boiler service waiting time is getting longer and technicians are warning that it is only going to get worse.

The boiler service technicians have already seen that this year’s heating season has started. Although it is recommended and mandatory by law in many countries to perform a regular gas boiler service inspection on an annual basis, most users put the visit of an expert off until the very last minute. Thus, they often fail to detect a problem in time and risk an unnecessary failure of their heating system during winter.

October is a critical month for heating engineers. A lot of home owners start their boilers for the first time when the weather cools down. And they also start to determine the first deficiencies or defects.

The situation is similar every year. At the end of August, we are still able to come for the service inspection within a week. But when the weather suddenly cools down, we can’t even keep up with the phones ringing. At the beginning of the heating season, we are usually booked for several weeks in advance. Moreover, any boilers that are not working are repaired first and service inspections are postponed to a later date. When someone does not have a backup source of heat and leaves the service inspection for the very last moment, they are risking that they will not be able to heat up their home in rainy autumn.

One of the most important parts of the service inspection is cleaning the heat exchanger. The combustion chamber is getting clogged with combustion products during the boiler operation, which reduces its efficiency and the durability of the heat transfer areas. Experts estimate that a properly cleaned boiler works with higher efficiency and with 15-17% lower fuel costs. A standard service inspection takes about an hour, including the boiler cleaning and adjustment, and it depends on the type of equipment.
